We are Gods eyes, heart and hands on earth. Our mission is to help our
brothers and sisters in the developing world.
Our target group is Jamaicans living in the Wealthy Diaspora who have a
heart for helping their poor brothers and sisters at home.
Our name Nehemiah Foundation comes from Nehemiah 2:7-8 where Nehemiah went
to the king to ask for assistance to repair the broken down walls of his city.
Nehemiah was living in Babylon
at the time during the reign of King Artaxerxes. He held a fairly high position
and could have chosen to be comfortable and to forget his people back home. But
God gave him such a burden that he was willing to risk his life to ask the King
for a time-off to go and build the city of his Fathers. He even went further
than that, he asked for a letter to take to the keeper of the Kings Forests to
obtain timber to build the gates of the citadel, the walls of the city and his
own residence. How bold?
This is what this organisation is about. Encouraging us to be bold. To
approach the highest authority within our reach and to cry out for help, on
behalf of our nation.

Nehemiah Foundation is the brainchild of a Jamaican wife and mother,
Jacqueline Geddes.
In 1999 she moved to Dominican Republic
and later to London
because of her job. She has now returned to Jamaica.
Living outside of Jamaica
opened her eyes to some of the issues facing small economies because of
globalisation. Because the world is now looked at from a global standpoint,
economies like Jamaica
tend to fall through the cracks when poor economies are being identified for
aid.
It is her belief that one of the ways in which Jamaica will be helped is by
Jamaicans living overseas, becoming Nehemiahs. Identified by the following
characteristics: Love for country. A burden for the country. Willingness to
seek assistance from people of influence. Willingness to return for maybe short
periods to provide help. Willingness to work in partnership with other groups
to help.
If you have ever:
1. Wondered why it seems that poor countries are getting poorer and rich
countries are getting richer?
2. Despaired at what will become of the Developing world
3. Had a strong desire to help make a difference?
Then this organization can help.
We provide the tools and resources to help make the
difference.
Jacqueline has over 20 years Private Sector experience in the Information Technology field, working as an Information Technology Manager, Systems Analyst, Project Manager and Business Analyst. She has worked both in a Regional and Global capacity within and outside Jamaica.
In 1996 she pioneered the Swallowfield community outreach program in her church community, a community of 4500 in the South East region of Kingston and St. Andrew.
During that period, programs such as Skills training sewing classes, Health fairs, monthly groceries for the elderly, fun days for the youth, Christmas treats for orphans, homework club and Computer literacy for children who had difficulty reading were implemented. The project involved working alongside the community, the Social Development Corporation and the Government to produce a proposal for funding. They helped organize several meetings with community leaders, the Member of Parliament, the Councilor etc. They worked with the Social Development Corporation to do Problem analysis using the following tools and techniques: Triangulation, Rapport building, pair-wise ranking, Venn Roti diagram, Force Field diagram, Resource mapping, Matrix Ranking etc. The following documents were produced, Care for the Elderly, Care for the Young and a Lift up Jamaica - Beautification and Sanitation proposal.
This project provided experience in understanding the culture of the socially excluded, emphasized the importance of unity and ensuring that all partners have a vested interest in the project.
She is an accredited Partnership Broker PBAS and a Project Management Professional (PMP).
She is available to make presentations to Jamaican overseas community groups on ways we can help Jamaica.

By studying the life and
times of Nehemiah in the bible, we have identified a number of Key strategies
which can be used to help Jamaica:
1. Find out what is
happening back home. Read the news, ask family and friends.
2. Accept that the walls are
broken down. Weep, mourn, fast and pray over the state of the land. Repent on
behalf of the land. Pray for favour with persons of influence in the Country in
which you live.
3. Petition the persons of
influence in your workplace, community for help. Seek funding.
4. Make short-term visits to
spy out the land to obtain first hand evidence. Seek the Lord on how he wants
you to get involved.
5. Identify trustworthy
partners in Jamaica
to help with the building process.
6. Work and Pray. Expect
opposition. Encourage team to remember God's greatness and awesomeness.
7. Listen to the people and
try to respond to their immediate needs for food and justice.
In order to be successful
you must be:
1. Willing to make a
sacrifice.
2. Willing to lead by being
a servant.
